2. Collection and Storage of Personal Data
a) Email Verification (OTP)
When you initiate a scan, we process your email address to send a One-Time Password (OTP) for verification. This prevents service misuse and guarantees ownership. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest).
b) APK File Submission
To run the accessibility review, we store the uploaded APK temporarily on our local system. The APK is securely stored within folder uploads/ and assigned a random, non-associative ID. The APK file is transferred over encrypted HTTPS and is completely deleted from our servers immediately after the Appium accessibility analyzer finishes processing it (within a maximum of 48 hours). The legal basis is your explicit consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, and Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR for contract performance.
c) Cookies and Preferences
We respect cookie choices. Strictly necessary cookies (e.g. storage of cookie preferences) are loaded automatically under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Analytics and marketing cookies are disabled by default and only loaded after your opt-in consent under Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR.
3. Data Security
We employ state-of-the-art TLS encryption for all data transfers. The backend components (RabbitMQ, FastAPI, Android Emulators) are containerized and run locally on secured nodes to ensure your application packages are never exposed to external networks.
4. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR): Obtain information about stored data.
- Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): Request correction of incorrect data.
- Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Request deletion of stored data.
- Right to Data Portability (Art. 20 GDPR): Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

BarrierFreiHub provides automated accessibility analysis for Android applications (.apk files) using customized emulator audits. The service parses application UI trees to detect common accessibility gaps like contrast violations, missing text descriptions, and click target size errors.
2. User Representations and Warranties
By uploading an APK file, you guarantee that:
- You own the application or have obtained express permission from the copyright owner to upload and scan the file.
- The package does not contain malicious code, spyware, trojans, or software designed to disrupt the server structure.
- You will not upload packages that violate local laws or violate copyright permissions.
3. Disclaimer of Warranty
The accessibility reports generated are informational guidelines. They are automated scans and do not constitute a legal guarantee of compliance with WCAG, EAA (European Accessibility Act), or German Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung (BITV). Professional legal review is recommended for official certifications.
4. File Storage and Deletion
We strive to protect user intellectual property. The system deletes all uploaded files within 48 hours of scan completion. We do not distribute, sell, or disclose uploaded binaries to third parties.
